Kathleen’s Back Problems

I would like to thank all the people who have contacted my wife, Kathleen, and given her their input, experience, and advice concerning her back problem. As most of you know for three years we have consulted with many top orthopedic and neurosurgeons, hoping for a miracle but have always been told the same thing. That she would need a vertebral fusion and replacement of a disk with a foreign material with only a 50/50 chance of success. Finally, due to the excruciating pain, Kathleen bit the bullet and made an appointment to have the operation in November 2011. At this point Walker Curry, an ex-military physical training instructor friend of mine stepped in and begged Kathleen to postpone the operation for a few months. This would allow him to work on her back and see if any improvement could be made by building up her muscles. After three months of vigorous work outs twice a week, it seems like her prayers have been answered. Her back no longer prevents her from performing normal physical activities, and the pain has subsided. This picture of Kathleen was taken on March 10, 2012, at a Gala held at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina. Those of you who have met Kathleen will see an amazing change in her. New 2010 Laws for Medicare Supplement Insurance “Medigap”

Numerous changes were made to the Medicare Supplement Plans available to seniors
starting June 2010, including the elimination of several plans.

Beware:

Not all new plans are regular Traditional Medicare. Some companies will be selling Medicare Select Plans. Medicare Select Plans are not the same as a Traditional Plan F. Medicare Select Plans Restrict you to certain hospitals and providers! Call me if anyone tries to sell you a plan F that seems too cheap! If a person already has Medigap insurance, they have 30 days of “open enrollment” following their birthday each year when they may buy a new Medigap policy without a medical screening or a new waiting period. MEDICARE ADVANTAGE HMO and PPO PLANS
Most Advantage HMO’s and PPO’s have a network of doctors, hospital, and clinics. Patients are allowed to use other doctors and facilities in an emergency. Co-pays and deductibles may be charged for office visits, tests, x-rays, surgeries, hospital. There is no way to determine the charges before treatment. Most plans will have a maximum out of pocket amount per year possibly $3,000.00. There may not be any limit to the out of pocket charges if the patient goes outside of the network. If a subscriber remains on the plan longer than a year, they may not qualify for a medicare supplement due to their health.
